Is airsoft legal in the UK?
Yes, airsoft is legal in the UK, but it is regulated:
- Realistic Imitation Firearms (RIFs): Can only be purchased if you are over 18 and can prove involvement in airsoft (e.g., UKARA membership).
- Imitation Firearms (IFs): These are brightly coloured replicas that can be purchased without special requirements.
What is UKARA, and do I need it?
- UKARA (United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association) is a player registration scheme.
- Player registration is free, to become a registered airsoft player you are required to take part in three games at the same UKARA registered game site over a minimum of two months, e.g. the third game being 56 days or more after the first.
- You must be over 18 years of age, live within the UK and able to provide identification such as Passport, Drivers License or Bank Statement.
- To buy a RIF (realistic imitation firearm), you need to be at least 18 years old
What safety gear do I need?
- Mandatory: Full-seal goggles or glasses meeting ANSI Z87+ or EN166 standards.
- Highly Recommended: Face protection (mesh masks) to protect teeth and lower face.
- Additional gear, like gloves, sturdy boots, and tactical clothing, can enhance safety and comfort.

- AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns): Most commonly powered by batteries.
